In the 1990s, Ennex Corporation kept a collection of objects fabricated on the various machines known today as 3D printers, along with every book and periodical published about the technology at that time. Two decades later, this collection provides a unique glimpse of the beginnings of this exciting field. It now seeks a new home, preferably in a museum, library, university, or other institution that will make it available to the public and interested scholars.
The collection has 90 fabricated artifacts and over 300 books and periodicals amounting to over 23,000 pages, as well as dozens of video tapes and over 500 photographic slides. It also includes, with special permission from several consulting clients, the previously confidential reports produced for them, showing how people were thinking about exploiting the technology in its earliest days. And with that, Ennex has also included its own previously confidential documents, including business plans and its 1998 proposal to Mattel.
A complete inventory, with photographs and descriptions of every item in the collection, is available at www.fabbers.com/relics .
Ennex is considering auctioning the collection on eBay in September, but is also open to discussing representation or offers prior to that. Inquires or a request to be notified when auction details are available may be sent at www.Ennex.com/contact .
