I’ve had it a week - I’ve done some satisfactory prints, but I love to tweak and mod things to get every ounce of performance I can. This is my first 3D printer with zero previous experience. Just lots of reading. I used to install & service Haas CNC machines 15 years ago, so I guess I have a fair knowledge of CNC machining basics.

I found this model of a cat & wanted to print it for my wife - she poo-pooed my purchase of this printer, but she loves her kitties.

Seems huge, 10cm? I’ll scale down at least 50% to start out.

I want her cat to be perfect, so last night I downloaded this bed leveling calibration model to see how well I level my bed:

I have green HatchBox 1.75mm PLA loaded.
It printed fair, but the green color exhibited these symptoms:
Rear-left corner - green was very dark, stuck down tight - IIIP buildtak surface was showing thru more black because PLA was thinner?
Rear-right corner - bright green, mediocre adhesion
Front-right corner - dark green but not as dark as back-left, OK adhesion
Front-left corner - bright green, a couple tracks didn’t stick and cut the corner off

So I thought, OK my bed isn’t level - I want this test print to look uniform all the way around on all 4 corners right?

I started messing around and by 0200 this morning I was WAY worse off than when I first tried the Bed Calibration Test Object.
I was dragging blobs of green PLA all over the bed, cutting corners off, etc.
The persistent issue seemed to be:
Front-left & rear-right diagonal - thumb wheels are loosey-goosey - barely any tension at all, difficulty passing the paper-test.
Front-right & rear-left diagonal - thumb wheels are fairly tight when they pass the paper-test.

I went to bed pissed, and today I got to thinking about glass, I read this thread the other day: https://redd.it/5ljae1
“Those print beds are not flat. Add a glass sheet and watch your leveling problems disappear.”

Turns out a know a guy at a local glass shop.
I will have an 8"x8" 1/4" (6.35mm) sheet of pyroceram glass this afternoon.

1. Seems like good glass for a heated bed right?
2. The glass I see on Amazon, etc. for the Maker Select V2 is 3-4mm thick - will 6.35mm be too thick?
3. I’ve seen glass right over top of the IIIP buildtak, held down with document binder clips - will that be OK for now until I get some thermal transfer pad & peel it off?
4. Will PLA stick to clean Pyroceram glass without any coating like hairspray?
5. My bed springs should be nice and snug all the way around when I level now, because 6.35mm higher?
6. My Z-stop switch is adjustable, currently it is all the way down. Think I’ll need to move it up?
7. Will my leveling problems disappear?

Thanks in advance for any & all advice!
