@Filemon Are there any plans to open up the API for orders that have been received by our hubs? Right now there’s a lot of manual work in order management that could be largely addressed by an API that allows changes to order status, that allows me to pull customer address, order line items/total, print settings, and a link to the order page.

Here’s our current workflow:

  1. 3D Hubs - Review & Accept order
  2. Asana - Enter order info (cust name, order number, order page link, print material, colors, quality) We use Asana’s board view mode for all of our custom printing projects. It allows us to assign jobs to various employees, track job status, etc.
  3. Asana - Change order status from Printing to Ready to Ship
  4. 3D Hubs - Change order status from Printing to Ready to Ship
  5. Shipstation - Enter customer shipping & order information
  6. Shipstation - Pack/ship order
  7. Asana - Enter tracking info and change order status to Shipped/Completed
  8. 3D Hubs - Mark as Shipped/enter tracking info

Our number of steps could be cut in half if there was an API available. Is this something that 3D Hubs can add to its features-to-be-built if there isn’t something already available?

@Fargo3D

We currently don’t offer any kind of API for the order management systems, however the importance of it is clear.

For now, we don’t have any concrete plan to build this and I wouldn’t be able to give you any estimation on when this can become available, however this is inevitable.

Thank you for breaking the issue down like this. It demonstrates the need clearly and will give me something to bring to the product team to prioritise, but I can’t promise this to be done this year.

Best,

@Arnoldas would it be possible to publish what features are scheduled to be implemented for the year?

Maybe like the Changelog but for the future? This way the community would know what you are working on and would not have to ask if it’s already going to be introduced by the end of the year.

Also for features, I know there’s another website used (uservoice), should the community suggest features via the forums or the other site? It seems uservoice requests get more responses?

Additionally, it would be nice to perhaps to publish a guide/article on how you choose what features to work on/present the reasoning and data behind the decisions.

I know 3D Hubs is not a non-profit and as such does not have to have a certain mandated set of transparency, but I firmly believe being more transparent would make the community happier and also make 3D Hubs appear more user friendly.
