Hi everyone (first post yay),
Today I made a pretty cool discovery.
Here’s the short version.
If you’re having problems getting your print to stick, just cut a piece of A4 paper to the size of your bed, readjust your extruder height and print. I haven’t tested this with any other plastic than PLA, but it might work for ABS and other types of plastic as well.
Now for the long version:
So about a month ago I got my first 3D Printer and after building it and spending a couple days troubleshooting, I began printing, but after a couple prints I found that I was unable to get my prints to stick. It seemed no matter what I tried, the print failed at printing the first layer. The print would come unstuck and come off the bed and get dragged around by the extruder or peeled off by a stray bit of plastic on the extruder. I was at my wits’ end. Then I realized something. My extruder had been leaking plastic as it heated up and I would just wipe it away with some paper. When I got bored I would pick away at the bits of plastic on the paper and noticed that the plastic stuck really well to the paper. This gave me an idea. I took a piece of normal A4 paper and cut it to the size of my bed. I clipped it to my bed making sure it was taut, and started printing.
It worked so well that after the print had finished I tore the paper getting the print off.
So if you are having problems getting your PLA prints to stick, try using an ordinary piece of paper.
Thank me later.
